In Northern Cyprus, there is a gradation of the permissible level of alcohol in the blood. We immediately warn you that any amount of alcohol in the blood while driving can lead to dire consequences.

The calculation is based on the amount of alcohol in the blood (per 100 milliliters), and not in the exhaled air (per 1 liter). Thus, the exhalation breathalyzer will have different numbers.

BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL

уровень алкоголя за рулём северный кипр

0 - 50 milligrams per 100 milliliters

In this case, you will be given a verbal warning, but no sanctions will follow. When measured with a breathalyzer using exhaled air, the value should not exceed 0.23 milligrams per liter.

50 - 100 milligrams per 100 milliliters

At this level, you will be fined 9051 lira, or 50% of the minimum wage in Northern Cyprus before taxes. When measured with a breathalyzer using exhaled air, the reading shouldn’t be between 0.23 and 0.47 milligrams per liter.

100 milligrams per 100 milliliters and above

Here you will be fined 18,103 liras, or 100% of the minimum wage in Northern Cyprus before taxes. When measured with a breathalyzer using exhaled air, the reading should exceed 0.47 milligrams per liter.

How is alcohol in the blood converted to alcohol in the breath?

Since the concentration of alcohol in the blood and air mixture is different, the numbers differ. Simplifying the medical formula, you can multiply the exhaled milligrams by 2100 to get the blood alcohol concentration.
