Is a residence permit required for people over 60 in Northern Cyprus?
Below is a brief overview of the rules for obtaining a residence permit (RP) for retirees in Northern Cyprus.
Rules for obtaining a residence permit for retirees
Previously, retirees who moved to the northern part of Cyprus could live on the island without obtaining an official residence permit, and no penalties were applied for overstaying. However, the rules have changed.
According to the current information from the Migration Department, no benefits or special privileges are currently provided for persons over the age of 60. Retirees apply for a residence permit on the same basis as all other categories of residents.
The only difference is that most often retirees are granted a residence permit for two years at once, provided that they own purchased property of any value.
