Working Hours Schedule of Institutions in Cyprus
The famous Cypriot philosophy "siga-siga" is reflected in the operation of various institutions, from governmental to service sectors. However, Cypriots do adhere to a certain schedule. Although it should not be treated as exact timing, we will discuss the accepted working hours in Cyprus.
Public services adjust their opening and closing times throughout the year, but it always falls within the range of 7:30 - 8:30 in the morning to 15:00 - 16:00 in the evening.
Private companies typically take a siesta during the day and operate as follows:
- 08:00 - 13:00 / 15:00 - 18:00 from September 15th to May 31st
- 08:00 - 13:00 / 16:00 - 19:00 from June 1st to September 14th.
- Working days are from Monday to Friday.
The operating hours of stores heavily depend on the location - urban, rural, or in tourist areas. Typically, this is from Monday to Saturday, starting no earlier than 7:00 and closing no later than 21:00.
Many stores still practice half-day closing on Wednesdays and Saturdays and remain closed on Sundays. However, in tourist areas, both small shops and large supermarkets operate until late and do not close on Sundays.
However, even in popular tourist spots during the summer, you may come across a three-hour siesta from around 14:00 to 17:00.
