3.5-month-old baby with extensive brain hemorrhage in critical condition; parents detained
A three-month-old (3.5 months) baby is in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Makarios Hospital in Nicosia after being diagnosed with extensive brain hemorrhage, reports Simerini. The child was hospitalized on September 4 at a hospital in Limassol, where seizures occurred and a brain CT scan was performed.
According to the police, the CT scan revealed a large subdural hematoma, including in the posterior left region, after which pediatricians deemed immediate transfer to Nicosia necessary. The child’s parents, aged 40 and 22, have been detained and placed under a four-day custody; an investigation is ongoing against them on charges of causing grievous bodily harm, endangering a minor, and cruel treatment of a child under 16.
Law enforcement authorities stated that all possible circumstances leading to the severe injury of the child are being considered. No official comments from the family or additional medical details have been released yet.
For residents of Cyprus, it is important to know: if child abuse is suspected, it should be reported immediately to the police or the Social Protection Service. The investigation continues, and additional facts will be revealed after official statements from law enforcement and medical authorities.
