American Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison in Cyprus for Importing 15 kg of Cannabis
The Larnaca Permanent Criminal Court has sentenced a 35-year-old U.S. citizen to 12 years in prison for importing 15 kilograms of cannabis into the country.
The defendant was found guilty after pleading guilty to charges of drug importation, distribution, and impersonation.
According to the investigation, the man arrived in Cyprus from the United States to receive a drug shipment. On May 19, 2025, YKAN anti-drug unit officers received information about a suspicious box arriving at a private company in Larnaca. Inside were 30 packages of cannabis with a total weight of approximately 15 kg.
The accused was listed as the recipient of the package and was invited to collect the shipment. On May 25, the box was handed over to the man, after which YKAN officers immediately detained him.
In his testimony, the defendant stated that he came to Cyprus to receive drug parcels and subsequently transfer them to other people. He was promised 1,000 euros for each delivery.
He also stated that he agreed to this activity due to financial difficulties.
