Consumer Association: mass complaints about distribution of spoiled milk in Cyprus
Dozens of complaints about the distribution of spoiled milk from a well-known company have been received by the Consumer Association in Cyprus, said the organization’s chairman, Marios Drusiotis, on Astra radio. According to him, the problem has been ongoing for two to three weeks.
He called on the authorized authorities to publicly inform residents about the situation and take responsibility, since no official statements have been made on site so far.
Drusiotis also noted that the company itself has not commented on the emerging problem.
The situation is under review by the sanitary and veterinary services. The director of the veterinary service stated that, in his assessment, the issue does not pose a health threat, as consumers determine milk spoilage by smell.
Drusiotis criticized this position, stating that it shifts responsibility to the consumer. He emphasized that it is especially problematic if a child drinks milk from the fridge or if milk is mixed with cocoa or chocolate — then determining spoilage by smell is more difficult.
The chairman of the Consumer Association stressed that, in his opinion, the problem is related to the reception and production of milk, not its distribution and sale, and should have been resolved within a few hours, rather than continuing for weeks.
