Bank of Cyprus warned about fake Threads accounts impersonating the CEO

Bank of Cyprus stated that fake profiles have been detected on the social network Threads using the name and photo of the bank’s CEO, Panicos Nicolaou. According to the bank, scammers use these accounts to pose as “investment advisors” and lure users into fraudulent schemes under the guise of profitable investments.
The bank emphasizes that its CEO does not provide investment advice on social media, and that Bank of Cyprus never asks via messengers or social platforms to send money or disclose passwords, access codes, or other personal data. Any such messages are considered attempts at fraud and are not related to the bank’s official activities.
Residents are advised not to respond to suspicious accounts, not to transfer funds, and not to share personal information. The bank also recommends immediately reporting fake profiles using the platform’s tools and verifying any claims only through Bank of Cyprus’s official channels.
