Cyprus Business Concerned About Impact of War on Tourism
The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KEBE) has expressed serious concern over the initial economic consequences of the escalating military crisis in the region. According to the organization, geopolitical instability is already starting to affect the country's tourism industry.
The statement notes that the hotel and tourism sector is traditionally among the first to react to international crises. Cancellations of bookings, a slowdown in new orders, and growing uncertainty in international markets are already being recorded, raising fears for the upcoming tourist season.
KEBE emphasizes that tourism is one of the key pillars of the Cyprus economy, providing jobs for thousands of businesses and employees, and supporting an entire chain of related industries—from trade and transport to the service sector. Therefore, negative consequences could affect not only the hotel business but the country's economy as a whole.
The organization called on authorities to promptly monitor the situation and be ready to take support measures. If the crisis persists, it is necessary to consider introducing targeted assistance programs for the hotel and tourism sector to preserve businesses and jobs.
KEBE also considers it important to strengthen the promotion of the Cypriot tourism product in international markets and use all available government policy tools to stabilize the industry.
