Celestyal cancels first Mediterranean cruises due to Middle East situation
Cruise line Celestyal has been forced to cancel its first Mediterranean sailings of the season as both of its vessels remain in the Middle East region.
Specifically, the Celestyal Discovery cruises have been cancelled: the three-night Iconic Aegean itinerary on March 20 and the four-night sailing of the same route on March 23.
While both ships are fully operational, they remain in the region. Celestyal Discovery has completed passenger disembarkation and remains in Dubai, while Celestyal Journey continues to disembark guests in Doha (Qatar) following its cancelled voyage.
The company noted that the ships' departure from the region will only be possible after obtaining clearance from relevant authorities. The primary issue is that the Strait of Hormuz, which the vessels must transit to reach Europe, is effectively closed due to regional conflict.
Passengers of the cancelled cruises have been offered a full refund or a future cruise credit.
According to the current schedule, the next Celestyal Discovery Mediterranean cruise is planned for March 27, while Celestyal Journey is set to begin its season on April 4, 2026.
