Four students plan to set an unprecedented record for Cyprus — to run across the island from west to east within one day.
On the night of 21 December they will start from the church of Agios Kokkonas in Akamas and, in a continuous relay format, aim to cover about 240 kilometres in 24 hours to Cape Kavo Greko. Each of the four participants — Panos Alembis, Konstantinos Psaras, Petros Loizou and team captain Anghelo George Eleftheriou — will run three 20-km segments.
The team openly describes themselves as “ordinary guys who decided to think bigger” and says that the goal of the run is to inspire others not to fear big ambitions: “If you set a goal and work, you can go far beyond your usual limits,” says Eleftheriou. Their record attempt can be followed through an online GPS tracker.
