Number of Cypriot Students in UK Universities Halved
According to the British Council, there are currently 4,780 Cypriot students enrolled in over 40 universities across the UK. Since the implementation of Brexit in 2020, the number of Cypriot students attending British universities has decreased by almost 50%.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, the UK hosted 9,730 Cypriot students. However, a sharp increase in tuition fees has made higher education unaffordable for many Cypriot students.
Despite this decline, the most popular courses among Cypriot students in the UK remain the same. The top five fields of study are business, engineering, law, computer science, and medicine.
Thanks to longstanding historical and linguistic ties, the UK remains the second most popular destination for Cypriot students, after Greece. However, Cypriots with UK citizenship will continue to benefit from local tuition fees starting in January 2028.
For those still considering studying in the UK, two education fairs will be held in Nicosia and Limassol on February 21st and 22nd. These events will take place at the Hilton and Atlantica Miramare hotels, respectively.
