Cyprus to Open 60 More After-School Care Centers, Reaching a Total of 99
Cyprus is set to open an additional 60 after-school care centers, bringing the total to nearly 100. Additionally, low-income pensioners will receive Easter allowances. This announcement was made by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, ahead of a meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The President highlighted that expanding the after-school care network serves "several social purposes" and is part of his pre-election commitments. He emphasized that this initiative "adds great value to education."
"The first decision we’ll make today is about 60 more schools that will join the after-school care program. We’ve already approved 39 schools, so the total will now be 99. Our goal is to make all after-school care services optional by 2028," stated President Christodoulides.
The government also plans to approve a proposal to provide a €250 Easter allowance to low-income pensioners. Christodoulides noted that this amount is a 30% increase from last year and stressed the importance of supporting vulnerable groups. Around 11,000 people will benefit from this aid.
