Cyprus Forestry Department Receives 25 New Firefighting Vehicles
The Forestry Department of the Republic of Cyprus has strengthened its wildfire response capabilities with 25 new fire trucks.
During the official handover ceremony, Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment Maria Panayiotou emphasized the government's commitment to enhancing the department’s operational capacity—both through new equipment and aerial support.
These vehicles are part of a broader effort to improve wildfire prevention and response as Cyprus prepares for the upcoming fire season.
The minister praised the forestry department’s personnel, acknowledging their dedication and selfless service in protecting the island’s natural landscapes.
In the coming days, the department is set to receive six additional fire platforms and six water tankers to further boost its firefighting capabilities.
Earlier, it was reported that two firefighting aircraft from Jordan had arrived in Cyprus to assist in tackling wildfires.
With fire season fast approaching, emergency response agencies across the island have been conducting joint training exercises to ensure a well-coordinated wildfire response.
