Nine People Arrested for Illegal Employment in Larnaca
Nine individuals have been arrested in Larnaca for crimes related to illegal employment.
According to a statement from the police press office, a coordinated operation was carried out yesterday afternoon as part of efforts to combat illegal employment and the hiring of foreign nationals. The operation was led by the Foreigners and Immigration Service, in cooperation with the Green Line Monitoring Unit and the Migration Control Department.
The operation took place at construction sites of multi-apartment buildings in the Larnaca district. During the inspections, nine workers were discovered, six of whom were living illegally in the Republic of Cyprus, while two were asylum seekers whose applications are still under review.
All of the violators were arrested for engaging in illegal employment. Their employers were also called in for questioning by the police.
Additionally, officers from the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance's Inspection Department, who were summoned to perform their duties, found violations related to undeclared work. Employers were issued fines totaling €36,000.
