Two people died after collapse of residential building in Germasogeia
In the Germasogeia area of Limassol, a part of a residential building collapsed. The incident occurred during the day, after which emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
According to police, a report of a partial building collapse was received around 13:30. As a result of the incident, people were trapped under the rubble.
Rescuers extracted two bodies from the debris — the first was found around 17:30, and the second several hours later after extensive search efforts.
Three more people were taken to the hospital. It is reported that their injuries are not life-threatening.
A large-scale rescue operation continues at the site, involving the fire service, the EMAK unit, civil defense, police, and ambulances. Heavy machinery is being used to clear the debris.
According to preliminary information, there were 11 apartments in the building, and about 20 people could have lived there. Authorities are still determining if other people remain under the rubble.
It was previously reported that the house had been declared dangerous and required repairs, and warnings had been sent to the owners regarding the need for maintenance work.
