The house burned down in minutes, but faith survived: the story of a family from Koilani
The story of this family affected by the fire in the village of Koilani is truly heart-wrenching. Their permanent home was destroyed in a matter of minutes, as the house was being built with a loan and had not yet been fully occupied. As a result, they lost all their belongings, including the car they used for everyday travel.
Despite the devastation, people did not remain indifferent. The solidarity shown moved both villagers and volunteers: within two days, two small trucks of clothes and basic necessities were delivered — many items were brand new. The family even returned part of the clothes so they could be given to other victims, showing that human kindness endures even in suffering.
The family has been temporarily housed in a fellow villager’s home. Their only request is for a vehicle to help them move around, as their car was destroyed and the remaining one is too small for all family members. Most importantly, they need help rebuilding their home.
The most touching moment occurred when the eldest child, digging through the ashes of the house, found his baptism crosses. This symbol became a small miracle among the ruins, bringing hope and faith that what has been lost can be rebuilt.
