Two Cypriot Firefighters with Dogs to Search for Explosives at the Paris Olympics
Two members of the Cypriot police fire department, along with two explosive detection dogs, will be aiding the French police in ensuring security at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Their primary task will be to locate explosives within the French capital.
As reported by Alphanews, the application submitted by French authorities to the Cypriot police has been approved. Two firefighters with their canine companions are presently preparing for deployment to the Paris Olympics.
"These dogs and their handlers are certified in explosive detection. Given recent events and the immense significance and duration of the Olympic Games, their assistance is crucial," stated police pyrotechnician Odysseas Papadopoulos.
It's been confirmed that on July 8th, the firefighters will embark on their mission to Paris, accompanied by a purebred Labrador and a Belgian Malinois, both trained in explosive detection.
Following their arrival, they will undergo specialized training to familiarize themselves with the areas they will be operating in during the main sporting events of the quadrennium.
This marks the second instance of the Cypriot police being called upon to support security efforts at major international events like the Olympic Games. The Cypriot police previously provided assistance during the Athens Olympics in 2004, deploying handlers and detection dogs.
A similar request for assistance in ensuring the security of the Olympic Games has also been directed to the National Guard.
The 33rd Summer Olympic Games are scheduled to take place in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
