Two Young Men Arrested for Setting Fire to a Primary School in Limassol
Limassol police have arrested two young men, aged 16 and 23, for breaking into a local primary school and setting a fire inside. The suspects face charges of burglary, arson, and property damage.
According to police reports, the school’s security alarm was triggered late last night at 11:55 PM.
When officers arrived, they noticed a strong smell of smoke coming from the school grounds and immediately called the fire department. Firefighters arrived swiftly and extinguished the flames in the schoolyard.
The investigation revealed significant damage to the windows of two classrooms, a restroom, flower beds, and trash bins. A short while later, officers detained two suspects nearby.
A search of the suspects uncovered burglary tools. The 23-year-old was also found carrying a pocket knife, a small amount of solid fuel, and various stolen items from the school. The estimated cost of the damage is around €500.
Both suspects were taken into custody and transferred to the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID). During questioning, they allegedly admitted to breaking into the school, setting the fire, and stealing items from a classroom.
