Two Suspects in "Metamaks" Financial Pyramid Scheme to Face Court
In Cyprus, two of the three individuals arrested in connection with the "Metamaks" financial pyramid scheme are set to face court. The legal service has approved the registration of the case against these two suspects.
Today marks the end of the detention period for the three suspects involved in this high-profile case: a 53-year-old alleged leader of the scheme, a 63-year-old retired police officer, and a 48-year-old resident of Paphos. Following this, investigators from the Limassol Police Department will proceed with filing the case at the District Court.
It is anticipated that the 53-year-old leader of the scheme and the 63-year-old retired police officer will be brought to court. The 48-year-old Paphos resident, according to preliminary information, will not face charges until the investigation is complete.
In early July, it was reported that the Cypriot police were investigating a prominent financial pyramid scheme. At that time, they also began collecting complaints from victims. Reports indicate that the number of victims has now surpassed one hundred.
The case is being handled by a special team from the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit.
As some victims may be located in Greece, the Cypriot police have requested assistance from Interpol. Additionally, victims of "Metamaks" have been identified in Afghanistan and the Philippines.
