Cyprus Pharmaceutical Services reported withdrawal of unsafe cosmetics

A number of skincare and haircare cosmetics, as well as children’s sunscreen, are being withdrawn from sale in Cyprus. This was announced on September 22, 2025, by the Cyprus Pharmaceutical Services, citing a notification from the pan-European rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products Safety Gate/RAPEX.
According to the statement, these products were included in the list of recalled cosmetics as part of measures taken by the European Union. The Pharmaceutical Services have initiated inspections to determine whether the products are present on the Cypriot market and urged citizens to stop using such items if found and to report them to the competent authorities.

At this stage, no detailed information has been provided about the brands, trade names, or batches of the recalled products. The country of origin has also not been specified. The agency limited itself to a warning by categories — skincare products, haircare products, and children’s sunscreen — and provided a link to the official government portal gov.cy, where updated lists of recalled items are published.

The Safety Gate/RAPEX system facilitates the exchange of information among EU member states about unsafe non-food products. Listing in this system means a health or safety risk has been identified — chemical, microbiological, or related to labeling deficiencies — and member states are required to promptly withdraw such items from circulation.

The Cyprus Pharmaceutical Services remind citizens to check official publications on gov.cy and in the Safety Gate database, and to refrain from using cosmetic products from the specified categories until their safety has been confirmed.
