Football Fans Clash After Heated Nicosia Derby
A violent brawl broke out in Nicosia on Sunday evening following the highly anticipated derby match between fierce rivals Omonia and APOEL. The chaos resulted in three people being hospitalized, and one female fan was arrested for verbally abusing police officers.
According to the police press office, the first incident occurred around 7:00 PM, when a local resident reported that vandals had smashed his car window near the stadium. Police patrols were immediately dispatched to the area.
Meanwhile, officers stationed at the match spotted a group of individuals spray-painting graffiti near the stadium. The suspects fled the scene before backup could arrive.
Later, shortly after 11:00 PM, police received a report of an attack on the Omonia fan club. Around 50 masked individuals armed with various objects stormed the building, causing extensive damage. Three people were injured and taken to Nicosia General Hospital for examination.
For the record, the classic Nicosia derby ended with a 2–1 victory for Omonia.
