Cyprus President Congratulates Konstantinos Tasoulas on His Election as President of Greece
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides has congratulated Konstantinos Tasoulas on his election as the President of Greece.
According to Christodoulides, Tasoulas’ decades-long presence in Greek politics since the 1980s—holding key positions at various levels of government—along with his successful tenure as Speaker of Parliament, serve as a strong foundation for his new role.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to Konstantinos Tasoulas on his election to the highest office,” the Cypriot leader stated.
Christodoulides also expressed his hope for close cooperation between Cyprus and Greece, not only to further strengthen the brotherly ties between the two nations but also to advance shared national goals and the interests of Hellenism.
The 66-year-old former Speaker of Parliament and candidate of the ruling New Democracy party was elected as Greece’s President in the fourth round of parliamentary voting. He secured 160 out of 300 votes, surpassing the required 151 for victory.
Tasoulas has been a member of the Greek Parliament since 2000. He briefly served as Minister of Culture in 2014-2015 and held the position of Speaker of Parliament from 2019 until January 2024, when he stepped down following his nomination for the presidency by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
