British Citizen Injured by Snake Bite While on Vacation in Cyprus
For a British citizen, a vacation in Cyprus ended up in the intensive care unit. The woman was bitten by a 1.5-meter snake.
As reported by the BBC, Sam West from Shifnal in Shropshire came to the island to celebrate her 40th birthday. On April 3, the woman was planning to participate in a meditation session at the Atlantica Aphrodite Hills Hotel in Paphos.
At the moment when the Briton was stepping onto the meditation platform, she was bitten on the leg by a 1.5-meter blunt-nosed viper.
"She bit me very quickly just above my left ankle, I didn't have time to react. The pain came instantly, my leg burned and throbbed," said the injured tourist.
The woman tried to shake off the snake and began to call for help. TUI tour operator staff and other hotel employees rushed to the scene.
The victim was taken to the emergency department, where a doctor told her she needed an antidote. After four days in the intensive care unit and one in another ward, Sam West was discharged from the hospital. For now, the woman is moving around in a wheelchair. TUI tour operator stated that they are in direct contact with the guest to provide her with full support.
Currently, Sam West, who is on vacation with his wife Kate, is waiting for doctors to allow her to return home.
