The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) has received a €40,000 donation from the Greek government.

This contribution brings Greece’s total financial support to the CMP since 2006 to an impressive €425,000.

According to the committee, the funds will go toward efforts to locate, identify, and return the remains of missing persons, helping to "end the uncertainty that has weighed on families for decades."

The CMP was established in 1981 through an agreement between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders under the auspices of the United Nations. Its exhumation, identification, and repatriation project officially began in 2006 and is partially funded by the European Union.

So far, the remains of 1,051 missing persons from both Cypriot communities have been identified and returned to their families, allowing for dignified burials.
