The Cyprus Institute creates 3D models and digitizes findings for the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus
The Cyprus Institute, under a memorandum of cooperation with the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, carries out specialized work on digital applications and three-dimensional models, which will be used in the new Archaeological Museum of Cyprus. According to the Institute, the Andreas Pittas laboratories (APAC Labs) are digitizing a number of archaeological objects and monuments, while the Virtual Environment Laboratory (VeLab) creates digital reconstructions of selected monuments.
VeLab and APAC Labs researchers met with the implementation team of the new museum on September 1, 2025, to discuss progress made and the next steps of the project. The work relies on previously obtained research data and includes the preparation of 3D models for museum exhibitions and digital applications.
For residents and visitors of Cyprus, this means broader access to museum collections through virtual tours and educational materials, as well as improved preservation and documentation of objects. Digital copies will assist in exhibition planning, remote access to materials, and support for restoration work. Opening dates of exhibitions and detailed schedules for implementing digital services have not been specified; official announcements are expected from the Department of Antiquities and the Cyprus Institute.
