Due to extreme heat, daytime outdoor work was banned in parts of Cyprus, and protective measures against overheating were recommended

The Cyprus Labour Inspection Department has ordered the suspension of all outdoor work between 12:00 and 16:00 in areas where the Meteorological Service has issued an orange warning for extreme heat. The maximum temperature in these regions is expected to reach up to 43 °C. The restrictions apply to territories more than 10 km from the coast and at elevations below 300 meters above sea level, as well as to areas above 1150 meters.
The directive states that both heavy and moderate outdoor work is prohibited, including transport and delivery services using two-wheeled vehicles — meaning couriers, food delivery personnel, and postal workers are affected.
In areas without an orange warning, employers and employees are advised to adjust work schedules and organize regular short breaks in shaded, cool, or air-conditioned spaces, use fans where possible, and take steps to reduce heat exposure.
Additionally, workers are advised to: ensure access to cool drinking water (10–15 °C), wear hats, light and breathable clothing (such as cotton), and appropriate sunglasses. Heavy meals, sugary foods, caffeine, and alcoholic beverages should be avoided.
