Cyprus' Population Set to Grow by 5.3% by 2054
According to the United Nations' "World Population Prospects 2054" report, Cyprus is among the few countries that will see the largest relative population growth by 2054. Over the next 30 years, Cyprus' population is expected to increase by 5.3%.
The report also mentions other countries that will experience similar rapid growth during this period, including Bhutan, Colombia, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
In 1995, the population of Cyprus was 854,000. By 2024, it is projected to reach 1.352 million. The population is then expected to rise to 1.51 million by 2054, before declining to 1.278 million by the end of the century.
Globally, the population is forecast to keep growing over the next 50 to 60 years, reaching a peak of 10.3 billion people in the mid-2080s. In 2024, the global population will stand at 8.2 billion. After reaching its peak, the world population is expected to gradually decline, reaching 10.2 billion by the end of the century.
