Cabinet of Ministers of Cyprus to review comprehensive compensation program for fire victims in Limassol

Today, the Cabinet of Ministers of Cyprus will review proposals prepared by various ministries regarding compensation for residents of the Limassol region affected by last week’s large-scale forest fires.
Minister of Agriculture Maria Panayiotou will present two main aid plans. The first provides compensation to farmers for the loss of annual income. The second aims to support the resumption of agricultural activity in the region.
Earlier, on Sunday, President Nikos Christodoulides announced the immediate allocation of funds to local councils to cover urgent needs. Transfers were made as early as Friday. He noted that further aid will be provided depending on the needs identified during consultations with representatives of affected communities.
The government also proposed measures to provide temporary housing for those left homeless, meet their basic needs, offer psychological support, and provide rental subsidies for as long as necessary.
The president assured that all damaged homes will be fully restored, including those that were not insured. Additionally, families whose homes were destroyed or partially damaged will be eligible for up to €10,000 in payments and an additional €2,000 per dependent.
Further compensation is provided for citizens who temporarily lost their jobs due to the disaster.
