Cyprus Leads Europe in Viral Suppression Among People with HIV
In Cyprus, Dr. Elisavet Constantinou stated on Thursday that the country ranks first in Europe in achieving viral suppression among all people living with HIV. The announcement was made at a press conference ahead of World AIDS Day.
According to the data presented at the event, in 2024 Cyprus is among the leading European countries in meeting the 95-95-95 targets, with all indicators exceeding 98%. Dr. Constantinou noted that such results demonstrate the high quality of healthcare services, systematic work of specialists, and close cooperation with community organizations.
The press conference also presented the latest epidemiological data and the overall progress of the Republic of Cyprus in achieving the global HIV/AIDS goals as defined by the United Nations. Special attention was given to prevention measures, including the introduction of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in October 2025, as well as the modernization of diagnostic and care mechanisms for timely access to treatment.
The Ministry of Health emphasized that prevention, information, and access to care remain the cornerstone principles of the national strategy aimed at eliminating stigma and ending AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
