Cyprus supports sanctions against Russia
Cyprus supports the 13th package of sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic, Konstantinos Kombos, at the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
The Foreign Minister emphasized that the issue of circumventing sanctions remains a key factor undermining joint efforts.
Speaking about the situation in Ukraine, Konstantinos Kombos confirmed the country's firm support for Cyprus and expressed "readiness to support a new package of sanctions," adding that the best guarantee of Ukraine's security is its European course.
Prior to the start of the council, EU foreign ministers held an informal working breakfast with the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Mariano Grossi, during which they were informed about efforts to ensure the safety of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine.
During the debates in the council, the Cypriot Foreign Minister also mentioned the Middle East and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing that "only the prospect of reviving the peace process can pave the way for lasting peace and stability in this region."
It should be noted that EU foreign ministers also held an informal meeting with the widow of Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalnaya.
Recall that the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, expressed condolences on the death of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny. The head of state admitted that he was deeply "shocked and saddened" by the tragic news.
