President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed that the Republic of Cyprus intends to consistently implement its energy plans, despite Ankara's statements about a possible intensification of work to the north of the island.

Commenting on the Turkish side's remarks regarding gas exploration and pipeline construction, the head of state emphasized that Nicosia acts exclusively within the framework of international law and the provisions of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

According to him, cooperation with international energy companies continues. In particular, projects are developing with the participation of Chevron, Eni, and TotalEnergies. The President expressed hope that new official statements regarding company interest in additional blocks within Cyprus's exclusive economic zone will follow shortly.

He specifically noted progress in the agreement with Lebanon on the demarcation of maritime borders, which had remained unresolved for a long time.

Christodoulides also stressed the growing importance of the Eastern Mediterranean as an energy region. According to him, events in recent years, including Ukraine and the subsequent energy crisis in Europe, have intensified interest in alternative energy supply routes.

Answering a question about a new licensing round, the president said that the government is conducting consultations and will make decisions based on the international situation and investor interest.

Thus, Cyprus continues to strengthen its position as a potential regional energy hub, relying on international cooperation and a legal foundation.
