Cyprus strengthens measures: over 500 deportations since the beginning of the year
Since the beginning of 2026, Cypriot authorities have deported 535 people, according to data from the Ministry of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus. During the same period, 2,052 voluntary departures, 578 detentions, and 529 cases of illegal arrival were recorded.
The department notes that the figures demonstrate the effectiveness of state policy in combating crime and illegal residence in the country. According to the ministry, since March 1 alone, 195 deportations have been carried out, with 729 voluntary departures, 204 detentions, and 256 new cases of illegal entry registered.
It is reported that the deported individuals were held in police detention centers, central prisons, as well as the Limnes pre-trial detention center. Detentions are mainly related to violations of migration legislation, including illegal stay and employment.
The Ministry emphasizes that the joint actions of the competent services yield "concrete and measurable results." Operations to identify individuals staying in the country illegally or involved in unlawful activities continue across the republic's territory.
Authorities state they will continue to consistently apply the law, adhering to the principles of the rule of law and respect for human rights, with the aim of maintaining public order and increasing the level of citizen security.
