New strategic partnership

The Cyprus Space Exploration Organization (CSEO) has signed an agreement with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens to develop joint projects in research, industrial training, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The collaboration was officially announced at a press conference. CSEO head Yorgos Danos emphasized that the partnership with the university's Faculty of Economics and Political Science will strengthen educational programs and practical training for specialists in the space industry.

Support for innovation and business

The agreement provides for the development of entrepreneurship and the creation of new companies in the space sector. Previously, CSEO also signed an agreement with the Keve Chamber of Commerce and Industry to support young professionals and startups.

"We will support a cluster of companies that started as Cypriot and have now reached the international level, including through the International Space Agency," Danos noted.

Existing projects include astronaut health research conducted by the Cyprus Institute of Genetics and Neurology. In November, a global space conference will be held in Cyprus with participation from space agency leaders.

Prospects for the space economy

University representative Dionysios Tobros noted that space and its applications have been developing since the 1950s and remain a strategic focus for states.

"The space economy will approach €1 trillion in the coming years. We must prepare for a future where the boundaries of the atmosphere are no longer a limit," he stated.

According to him, space resources, including asteroids, will be used in the future for metal extraction to reduce the environmental burden on Earth.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Political Science Nikolaos Iriotis added that the university seeks to expand research beyond the academic environment and considers the space sector a promising area for joint projects.
