The Cypriot mountaineering team has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the highest-altitude training session ever conducted. Athletes engaged in fitness activities atop Mera Peak in Nepal.

Under the leadership of experienced mountaineer Alexis Economides, the Cypriot team embarked on their expedition to Nepal in early May. The historic achievement occurred on May 6th at the summit of Mera Peak, which stands at an altitude of 6,476 meters above sea level.

The team comprised six members: Trevor Jones, Evgeny Konstantinou, and four Nepalese guides who underwent training under the group leader prior to the attempt.

The fitness session included a series of exercises such as squats, push-ups, planks, and more. To officially recognize the record, each exercise had to last for a minimum of 20 minutes.

The team's journey began several weeks before the record attempt with rigorous training sessions held in Cyprus to prepare for the demanding conditions of the Himalayas. Upon arrival in Nepal, the group embarked on a multi-day trek, gradually acclimatizing to the high altitude before reaching the base of Mera Peak.

On the morning of May 6th, following the final ascent to the summit, the team conducted their training session amidst the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Himalayan peaks.

Before beginning their descent, the team left a flag at the mountain's summit in memory of a former Sherpa guide who had worked with the team and tragically passed away on the same mountain five months earlier due to altitude sickness.

During the descent, the team encountered adverse weather conditions, prompting them to seek shelter for several hours.

Three days later, the mountaineers successfully completed their descent.
