The European Parliament and the European Commission are set to deliberate on recent developments concerning the Cyprus issue. The debates, included in the European Parliament's plenary session agenda, begin on Monday.

Media reports indicate that discussions will focus on the unilateral declaration of independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) 41 years ago and efforts to legitimize it. The debates will underscore the importance of European solidarity on this matter.

A primary agenda item for this session is the approval of the new European Commission, to be led by Ursula von der Leyen for the 2024–2029 term.

Other topics include the European Commission's financial forecasts, the endorsement of the 2025 budget agreement, and escalating tensions in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Notably, on November 15, the TRNC marked the 41st anniversary of its establishment. On the same day, student-led "anti-occupation" protests took place in the Republic of Cyprus.
