Cyprus was offered a new gas pipeline from Israel: the project is promised to be completed in a year

Energean presented Cyprus with an updated plan for direct gas supplies from Israel via a private 200-kilometer pipeline. The company assures that the project can be built in just one year after permits are obtained.
Energean CEO Mathios Rigas said the supplies will come from the already operating Israeli fields Karish and Karish North, and from 2027 also from the new Katlan field. According to him, this guarantees Cyprus a stable volume of gas from a nearby supplier.
The project is fully private: the cost is estimated at 350–400 million dollars, and the Cypriot state will not have to pay. The company claims that the gas could be cheaper than current fuel, which would reduce electricity costs and CO₂ emissions.
However, progress is only possible after a political decision — the opening of Cyprus’s gas market. Previously, the project was blocked due to the state monopoly.
Rigas also noted that a direct Israel–Cyprus gas corridor would strengthen the island’s energy security and create new opportunities for cooperation in the region.
