King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands will be making a historic visit to Cyprus on March 4-5. The two-day state visit, at the invitation of Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, will be the first official visit by the Dutch royal couple since the founding of the Republic of Cyprus.

Their visit follows a trip by President Anastasiades to the Netherlands in February of last year and aims to further strengthen the relationship between the two nations.

One of the key objectives of the visit is to promote student exchanges. Every year, approximately 700-800 Cypriot students enroll in universities across the Netherlands.

In addition to educational topics, the visit will cover areas such as agriculture, archaeology, and tourism. King Willem-Alexander is also scheduled to visit the Famagusta area, where he will tour a potato farm, underscoring the Netherlands' interest in deepening agricultural cooperation with Cyprus.

Earlier this week, the King met with a group of Cypriot journalists at the Noordeinde Palace in The Hague. For 20 minutes, he answered questions and spoke about the upcoming visit.

During the meeting, the King highlighted Cyprus’ strategic geographical position, emphasizing its role as a bridge between the EU, the Middle East, and North Africa. He also expressed appreciation for Cyprus' support in the evacuation of Dutch citizens from regions affected by crises.
