Major Crash on Nicosia–Limassol Highway: Fuel Tanker Bursts into Flames
A serious accident on the Nicosia–Limassol highway brought traffic to a standstill on Monday afternoon after a fuel tanker caught fire following a collision with another heavy truck. The highway remains closed in both directions.
The crash occurred around noon, near the Skarinou exit, according to emergency services and eyewitnesses.
The impact caused a complete roadblock, with all lanes shut down. One of the trucks, a tanker carrying fuel, erupted in flames, while the other, a semi-trailer loaded with hay bales, overturned on the roadside.
Firefighters and police teams rushed to the scene. Crews are working to extinguish the fire, while officers are directing traffic and diverting vehicles onto alternative routes.
A police helicopter has been deployed, dropping water on the burning tanker to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby trees.
Motorists are urged to follow police instructions and use the old road as a detour.
