Larnaca–Lefkara: authorities once again request a direct bus connection

The Larnaca Tourism Development Company (ETAP Larnaca) and the Mayor of Lefkara, Sophocles Sophocleous, have sent a new letter to the Ministry of Transport and Public Works demanding the launch of a direct bus connection between Larnaca and Lefkara — at least in a pilot format.

The reason is that a year has passed since the meeting of representatives of the Larnaca Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis (December 2024), at which the possibility of such a route was discussed. At that time, the minister promised to consider a solution, but no steps have been taken since.

Meanwhile, according to local authorities, the lack of a direct transport connection is harming the tourism sector. As examples, they cite the international marathon in Larnaca, which annually attracts thousands of participants from dozens of countries, as well as the Christmas village in Lefkara — a popular destination that tourists cannot reach directly by public transport.

The letter emphasizes that the existing city bus routes do not provide convenient connections between the coast and the mountainous areas. At the same time, local authorities acknowledge existing limitations but believe that a pilot Larnaca–Lefkara line is quite feasible and necessary.

The authors of the appeal note that the issue concerns not only transport, but also support for mountain communities, the development of regional tourism, and balanced economic growth. The Ministry of Transport is urged to intervene immediately and move the project forward.
