Larnaca ceremonially received the flag and the flame of the Authentic Athens Marathon, officially launching the programme of events leading up to the Radisson Blu International Marathon of Larnaca, which will take place on Sunday, November 16.

The ceremony included the arrival of the delegation, a symbolic relay, and the lighting of the flame — events that brought together the sporting spirit and the atmosphere of the city, setting the tone for the upcoming marathon. Athletes, volunteers, and local officials participated.

On behalf of the Municipality of Larnaca, Deputy Mayor Iasonas Iasonidis expressed gratitude to SEGAS and representatives of the Municipality of Marathon for delivering the flag, noting that it is a symbol of friendship, cooperation, and support. The Deputy Mayor for Sports of the Municipality of Marathon, Tasos Chryssinas, conveyed wishes of success to all race participants.

The flag and the flame were delivered by SEGAS representatives — board member Labrini Anastopoulou and Director of Running Events Stefania Papakosta. They noted the symbolic significance of the flame, which reflects universal human values.

Radisson Hotels representative (Marios Poliviou) emphasized that the marathon continues to grow and break its own records, expressing hope for new achievements in the sporting aspect as well. Greek wrestling athlete Maria Prevolaraki also took part in the ceremony, arriving on the island as a torchbearer.

The relay started at 17:30 and proceeded along the seafront. By 18:30, the flame had been brought to the small theatre on Finikoudes, where the official lighting ceremony took place. The event was attended by members of the municipal council, MPs, representatives of public organizations, the business community, and volunteer groups.
