Forest Management in Cyprus Prepared for Fire Season
Cyprus is gearing up for the fire season with two helicopters from Jordan, which arrived last week and are now fully operational to assist in firefighting efforts starting this Monday. The crews have undergone extensive training, as announced by the Department of Forestry.
According to Georgos Konstantinou, a representative of the department, besides the helicopters from Jordan, firefighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, excavators, tracked vehicles, and other equipment have been delivered to the forestry department.
Konstantinou also mentioned that the department has eight drones available for daily patrols of "blind spots," enhancing safety measures and early response capabilities.
This year is expected to be particularly challenging, which is why the department's forces have been on standby since April. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, an additional aircraft will arrive in Cyprus in June.
Meanwhile, the tender for six leased aircraft is in its final stages.Read also: Emergency phone numbers in Cyprus
