Medicover Genetics in Cyprus is marking ten years since the introduction of the VERACITY non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT), developed and validated by Cypriot scientists. The test was presented to the medical community in 2015 and has been used in clinical practice ever since.

VERACITY uses cell-free DNA analysis and is intended for screening common chromosomal abnormalities: Down, Edwards and Patau syndromes, as well as other clinically significant disorders. The test is available from the 9th week of pregnancy and is processed in CAP-accredited and ISO-certified laboratories.

According to the company, several hundred thousand tests have been performed in more than 60 countries. VERACITY is validated for singleton and twin pregnancies, in assisted reproductive technologies and in cases of a vanishing twin; sensitivity and specificity for common trisomies exceed 99%.

The test panel and methodology comply with international recommendations for NIPT. VERACITY and VERAgene include additional screening for three microdeletion syndromes: Prader–Willi, Angelman and Cri-du-chat, expanding the ability to detect rare clinically significant conditions.

Medicover Genetics reports the expansion of its scientific activity towards oncology diagnostics, including the development of a liquid biopsy platform. The company reminds that VERACITY and VERAgene are screening tests; in cases of high risk, confirmatory invasive diagnostics, such as amniocentesis, are required.
