Cypriot youth rank last in life satisfaction — ESS survey
The 2023/24 European Social Survey (ESS) revealed that young people in Cyprus aged 15–34 ranked last among 24 countries in terms of life satisfaction, scoring 7 out of 10.
The analysis noted similar low results in Greece (7.2) and Italy (7.4). Countries with the highest scores included Croatia, Austria, and Slovenia, which are characterized by strong social cohesion and stable career development.
The report highlighted three key issues affecting the low satisfaction levels among youth: the housing crisis, job insecurity, and limited opportunities for professional growth. The study points out that these factors are closely linked to the economic and social challenges faced by the younger generation.
For residents of Cyprus, the results indicate that housing, fair wages, and clear career prospects remain pressing issues requiring attention from policymakers and society. According to the authors, addressing these challenges can enhance social cohesion and improve the long-term outlook for young people.
