FRAUDSTERS PRESENT THEMSELVES AS REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CYPRUS SECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION
The Republic of Cyprus Police urges the public to exercise increased caution due to the emergence of a new form of telephone fraud. The attackers are posing as representatives of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
According to reports received by police, Greek-speaking scammers report receiving calls from CySEC regarding suspicious activity in their bank accounts.
During the call, scammers either ask their victims for personal information or ask for access to their electronic devices.
In response to fraudulent activity, police once again urge citizens to be especially vigilant and refrain from answering such phone calls or providing any information.
The police statement stressed the importance of verifying the identity of anyone claiming to be an official and warned against disclosing sensitive information over the phone.
As investigations into these incidents continue, police are urging people to report any suspicious calls or encounters to the appropriate authorities immediately.
