Ukrainian Man Caught at Cyprus Checkpoint with a Suitcase Full of Caviar
A Ukrainian national was detained by authorities in the Republic of Cyprus after attempting to smuggle nearly 45 kilograms of caviar and salmon from the TRNC in a suitcase.
According to police, the incident took place on May 8 at the Ayios Dometios (Metehan) crossing point. During an inspection of the man’s vehicle, officers discovered a travel suitcase containing a significant quantity of animal-based food products. The items were seized in accordance with the Green Line Regulation.
Among the confiscated goods were 34.29 kilograms of fish roe, along with 10.3 kilograms of salmon and crab fillets.
The driver was arrested for serious violations but was released shortly afterward following an out-of-court settlement. The seized products were held for destruction.
