Another group of illegal migrants has arrived in Cyprus
On Wednesday morning, another group of illegal migrants was registered in Cyprus. Fifteen Syrian refugees arrived on a speedboat in the north of the island and then moved to the south.
Among the 15 detained migrants are seven men, four women, and four children. They all arrived in the Limnitis area at 5:30 in the morning, and then walked to areas controlled by the Republic of Cyprus.
The police patrol detained the arrivals and took them to the station for further examination. They will be transferred to the Pournara Refugee Reception Centre in Kokkinotrimithia.
It is worth noting that Cyprus is in a “crisis situation” due to the increasing number of migrants arriving on the island. The President of the country, Nikos Christodoulides, has already appealed to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to intervene in the situation.
On May 1st, the President of the European Commission visited Cyprus on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the country's accession to the EU. After her visit to the island, Ursula von der Leyen will travel with Nikos Christodoulides to Lebanon.
It was previously reported that the Cypriot authorities have suspended the process of considering applications from Syrian migrants for refugee status.
