Cyprus recorded the highest prices for dairy products among European Union countries
According to an analysis of household consumer price levels conducted by Eurostat, last year Cyprus recorded the highest prices for dairy products in the European Union: their cost was 30.8% above the EU average.
The price index for milk, cheese, and eggs on the island reached 130.8 points, slightly above Greece’s 130.5 points among EU countries.
Other EU members showed significantly lower indices: France – 96, Belgium – 99.5, Italy – 105, Estonia – 114.2, Malta – 123.5, Germany – 97.1, and Croatia – 111 points.
Cyprus also recorded above-average prices for oils and fats at 116.7 points, compared to the EU-20 average of 100.6 points. Prices for bread and cereals stood at 109.3 points versus the European average of 105.6 points.
Meanwhile, Cyprus demonstrated competitive pricing in several categories. Meat prices were registered at 88.3 points, significantly below the EU average of 106.2 points.
Greece scored 95.2 points, Luxembourg – 137 points, Germany – 112.3 points, and Portugal – 87.9 points.
For fruits, vegetables, and potatoes, Cyprus scored 98.4 points compared to 89.2 points in Greece.
Other EU countries showed higher indices: Denmark – 111.5 points, France – 119.2 points, Austria – 103.1 points, Malta – 113.8 points, Finland – 112.4 points, and Estonia – 110.7 points.
Fish prices in Cyprus stood at 101.8 points, lower than Greece’s 112.4, Denmark’s 129.7, and Austria’s 125.8 points. Portugal recorded 91 points, with an EU average of 100.3 points.
