100 kg of Peppers Imported via Green Line Confiscated in Cyprus
Cyprus customs authorities have confiscated 100 kilograms of green peppers that were attempted to be imported from Northern Cyprus through an unofficial crossing point.
The incident occurred on March 23 in the Agios Sozomenos area. Police stopped a pickup truck with Turkish Cypriot license plates driven by a 30-year-old man. The vehicle had crossed the "Green Line" through an unauthorized location.
Upon inspection, a large batch of goods was found in the back — about 100 kg of green peppers of unknown origin. Due to the violation of the Green Line regulations, the produce was confiscated, and the vehicle was seized as a means of transport.
The driver was later released after paying a fine of €2,000, plus €500 for the return of the vehicle.
The goods were temporarily left at the police station for disinfection procedures, after which they will be handed over to the customs service for destruction.
