Contribution of women to peace and equality celebrated in Cyprus
The Technical Committee on Gender Equality, under the auspices of the UN, issued a statement on the occasion of International Women's Day, noting the role of women in promoting equality, dialogue, and peacebuilding on the island.
The statement emphasizes that gender equality is the foundation of sustainable peace and reconciliation in Cyprus, and the full participation of women in public life and decision-making is essential for building trust and developing democratic institutions.
The Committee also reaffirmed its commitment to the principles of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on "Women, Peace and Security," which calls for increased participation of women in peace processes.
Special attention was given to cooperation with civil society, women's and youth organizations, as well as the need to involve both the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities.
