In Cyprus, over a thousand newborn lambs and kids died in a farm fire
In the village of Menoiko in Cyprus, a large fire broke out in the evening at a sheep and goat farm. As a result of the tragedy, more than 1,000 newborn lambs and kids housed in the farm building died.
According to the police, the fire started around 7:00 PM. When the fire units arrived at the scene, the building where the animals were kept was already fully engulfed in flames. It was impossible to save the animals — all perished from fire and smoke.
As stated by the official spokesperson of the Fire Service, Andreas Kettis, an investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire. One of the main theories is a malfunction of the heating system installed in the building. It is noted that the fire spread particularly quickly due to the materials used in the construction of the floor and roof.
Three fire units were involved in extinguishing the fire, using water hoses and breathing apparatus. After the fire was put out, the scene was handed over to the police for further investigation and security.
The damage from the fire is considered extremely serious, and the farm suffered heavy losses. The investigation is ongoing.
